91 Immutable Laws of Weight Loss

# 20 - Law of Plateaus

A weight plateau is a period where you aren’t able to lose weight no matter what you do.

Plateaus happen if you lose weight too quickly. So keep your weight loss to one pound a week which will help avoid them.

One way to overcome a plateau is to increase the calories used through exercise. If you look at my charts there isn’t a plateau. The only plateau was when I reached my goal weight of 160 pounds. But this was on purpose.

A way I overcame a plateau was to increase my walking distance. I went from three miles to six miles and a few days I increased it to eight miles.

Two reasons people plateau is their metabolism slows as they lose weight and they don’t burn as many through exercise. What you do at the start of your diet may not have the same effect after you lost 30 pounds. A 300-pound person will burn 35 more calories per hour standing than a 150-pound person.
