91 Immutable Laws of Weight Loss

# 18 - Law of Friends

“To lose weight, choose your friends wisely.” – Al Berg

The wrong friends or too many friends can be hazardous to weight loss. The more friends you have the harder it will be to lose weight. The weight of your friends can make it harder or easier to lose weight.

When I go out with friends there’s often alcohol involved and alcohol means it’s harder to stay on a diet.

I try to adjust my eating prior to my meeting. For example, if I’m meeting a friend for lunch then I try to eat light for breakfast and dinner. If for dinner I eat light for breakfast and lunch.

One way to manage this is to go out when you’re below your goal weight. The problem with this method is that it’s hard to predict this. So if you have flexible friends this method might work.

If you’re a party animal, the odds of losing weight and keeping it off are reduced.

You can also go out with your friends and eat and drink light.  Low calorie and limit the number. I drink two glasses of Merlot as there is some health benefit to red wine.

When I go out with friends I averaged gaining 2.2 pounds. You have a choice to make, go out with friends or lose weight. What’s your priority?

If your friends are thin, they eat right and exercise this is helpful to your weight loss. If they are obese, they probably eat unhealthily and don’t care enough about their weight it’s not helpful.
