“The dog ate my homework” – school excuse If you make excuses for being overweight you’re less likely to lose the weight and keep it off. Some excuses are: • I’m always hungry • I’m tired • I’m addicted to … • Weight-loss doesn’t work • I’ve lost weight but gained it back • It’s too hard • If I weigh myself I’ll get depressed • I have bad genes • I have slow metabolism • Life is too short • I don’t have the time • I hate vegetables • Exercise is so boring • I love the taste of food • I don’t deprive myself • I don’t want to eat like a woman (from a man) When you make excuses you stop solving problems. Instead ask yourself: • What can you do to reduce your hunger? • What can you do to get more energy? • How can you control your addictions? • The method you used was poor, what if you find a better method? • Is genetics the only component of gaining weight? • If you don’t lose weight and keep it off what are the consequences? • Do you want to shorten your life by not losing weight? • Where can you find the time to do what you need to do? • What is the one thing you can do today to start your weight loss program? Change your excuses: • Weight-loss hasn’t worked yet • Most worthwhile things are hard • My Metabolism is slow now but can be improved it by exercising • I use to be addicted to … but not anymore. Now I’m addicted to eating healthy and exercising |
