Certain words and their definitions can cause your weight loss and maintenance program to succeed or fail. The term “diet” usually describes a temporary eating pattern. You’re currently overweight. Eat these foods and you’ll lose weight. After you reach your goal you can go back to your old bad habits. When I use the term diet, it’s not a short-term process but a permanent way of life. I use the term “diet” in this book to include an eating regimen, exercise, habits to do. The real term I like to use is LWAKIO for Lose Weight And Keep It Off. Another few words said at the wrong time will kill your LWAKIO program but other times help you lose the weight and keep it off. The words “I can’t.” Henry Ford said, “If you think you can’t, you’re right and if you think you can you’re right.” So when it comes to losing weight, never say “I can’t.” But if someone asks you to go for a drink or ice cream or to have some cake or dessert, “I can’t” will help you avoid these situations. Explain to the person why you can’t. Most people will understand. The words, “I have to,” can help when deciding whether to exercise or not. If someone invites you for drinks answer with “Can I take a rain check? I have to exercise tonight.” |
