# 53 - Law of Hunger

When you’re hungry you make poor food choices. Eating fewer calories than normal will make you hungry. How you deal with hunger can make or break your diet.

One thing I discovered is that there are foods and items that reduce my appetite. I use the following foods, activities, and drinks to reduce my hunger:
• Sugar-free cough drops
• Sugar-free gum
• Sugar-free mints
• Diet Soda
• Fruits
• Nuts
• Low sugar protein bars
• Eating multiple small meals
• Avoiding foods that taste great when behind my goal
• Water
• Diet Snapple
• Brushing my teeth
• Flossing
• Ambesol
• Seltzer
• Low calorie protein shakes

These are a few things that helped. You need to experiment and find things that help reduce your hunger.

Also keep these things around and available so you don’t have to go to the candy machine and buy junk food.

Note that all these tips apply when I’m behind my daily goal. If I’m ahead I eat whatever I want.

Another technique, if you're hungry, is to do something fun or interesting to distract you. Have you played a game or worked on a project and time disappeared?  I’ve worked on interesting projects where I lost track of time and didn’t need to eat lunch.
