# 8 - Law of Denial

“Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.” – Mark Twain

Denial is a state where you don’t see what’s obvious to everyone else. You do this to protect yourself from the pain the truth would cause. Many people don’t lose weight because they’re in denial. Denial that the extra weight is affects them.

I see a similarity with people with financial problems, drug problems, and weight problems. It’s denial.

I’ve asked overweight people to weigh themselves each day and I get “Are you crazy? I would never do that!” So their weight creeps up slowly and before they know it they’re obese. It’s the same with debt. You start by borrowing a little and then a little more until it gets so big that you don’t want to look at your bills anymore. It’s not until your wage gets garnished that you do anything.

Drugs are the same, total denial of the problem.  Until you face your problems they won’t go away. What are you in denial about? Ask a few people as you can’t tell yourself since you’re denying it. If you get very angry about what someone says and a few people are saying the same thing, denial might be there.
